So reading MMORPG.com I find an article talking about the fact that Child’s Play Charity pulled out of a promotion that Atlantica Online, Free-to-Play MMO, was doing with its item store. According to the promotion 5% of the money people spent on the special package deal was going to Child’s Play as a donation.
Well I guess a few people decided to call this as crap and complained enough to Child’s Play that they pulled out. All well and good that is between them and the reasons for the complaints. What I really was interested in was the people on MMORPG making the comments about the whole deal.
User blackthornn - “oooh 5%. that’s pretty giving. (yes, it’s the thought that counts, better than nothing, etc but c’mon now)
donate via the charity website and get a tax receipt instead of dumping 95% of the fund into the item mall wallet /shrug”
Ok so blackthornn here suggests that going to the Child’s Play and donating that 5% is better because you get a tax receipt so you can get the money back on your taxes. Other users continue to say that the promotion is a money grab and that if NDoor really wanted to donate they can do it on their own. So I must ask all you people, WHERE THE FRAK DOES THE COMPANY GET THE MONEY FROM TO BEGIN WITH? What what was that? Of course they get it from you using the store no matter what. At least with this promotion which people are still buying because it has the stuff they want they also know that they are giving money to a charity as well. It doesn’t matter that the company is using the Charity to make themselves money. They would make the money either way so if they give some of it to Child’s Play why should it make you upset?
Now if the pack was garbage and not worth the money I would have to say sure complain about it. But not one of the posts I read complained about the pack itself just some greedy company donating someone’s money to charity through a pack sale. A company that is running an MMO that is Free to Play other than the option of buying stuff from the game store.
So yes, NDoor was/is trying to look good by doing a donation to charity through the sales of a pack. I would have to say that they are trying to do some good while making money. Who cares since even blackthornn suggested getting a tax receipt from donating directly then claiming it on your taxes so you aren’t actually spending any of your own money.
I got to say that the complainers are pretty much failures in that and that Child’s Play needs to grow a pair and accept the money since those complaining aren’t the types to donate on their own to Child’s Play either.

No I am not going religious on you folks… Instead I am talking about a well known entity that has gone from the young seemingly weak David into the great King David.
HTC’s bet on the booming smartphone business is giving it a major boost. It has also acquired a powerful godfather in Google, the Goliath whose attention is now captivated by the mobile phone business and whose chosen partner is HTC.
- From Wired.com
Now Wired refers to Google as Goliath but I really see them coming from the roots of David. They started small and used uncoventional methods to slowly grow and develop. They have defeated challenges and overcome obstacles to grow into a force to be reckoned with. They have slowly gotten their fingers into everything. Cellphones and cellphone technology, improved and inovative email technology, and many other things that make me love them and worry about them.
Eventually they are going to fall. They are going to see the “girl” that they lust after and covet and breaking all the rules they should live by they are going to “sin” and fall from grace. It will be scandel and it will be tragic. I can see some of this in some of the rumors that Google is developing their own phone and going to deploy it without all the other people in the mix that they normally are going to need. Could this be the “girl” and are they going to fall from grace.
I don’t know but I see people comparing Google to Goliath and I have to think that in reality they are not Goliath but they are in fact David and eventually though they do good and they are great that eventually it goes to their head and they think they are above the rules and laws and then they fall.

Well it is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world GOOGLE. Seriously if you don’t know yet I do love all things Google. Except I cheat with have an iPhone but that may even change in the future.
Now Google is coming out with a new programming language they call Go. They say it is a combination of Python meets C++. Claiming compile speeds of seconds for even large programs Go is going to change the way people program.
Why would they do all this? Well here is a clip from their FAQ.
No major systems language has emerged in over a decade, but over that time
the computing landscape has changed tremendously. There are several trends:
- Computers are enormously quicker but software development is not faster.
- Dependency management is a big part of software development today but the
“header files” of languages in the C tradition are antithetical to clean
dependency analysis—and fast compilation.
- There is a growing rebellion against cumbersome type systems like those of
Java and C++, pushing people towards dynamically typed languages such as
Python and JavaScript.
- Some fundamental concepts such as garbage collection and parallel computation
are not well supported by popular systems languages.
- The emergence of multicore computers has generated worry and confusion.
We believe it’s worth trying again with a new language, a concurrent,
garbage-collected language with fast compilation. Regarding the points above:
- It is possible to compile a large Go program in a few seconds on a single computer.
- Go provides a model for software construction that makes dependency
analysis easy and avoids much of the overhead of C-style include files and
libraries.
- Go’s type system has no hierarchy, so no time is spent defining the
relationships between types. Also, although Go has static types the language
attempts to make types feel lighter weight than in typical OO languages.
- Go is fully garbage-collected and provides fundamental support for
concurrent execution and communication.
- By its design, Go proposes an approach for the construction of system
software on multicore machines.
So since I call myself a Google Fanboy I think I am going to go and see what I can make with Google Go.
Also your thoughts and opinions on this feel free to leave some comments.

Now this is pretty novel. I know that Blizzard came out with the iPhone app but all that lets you do is look information up, which is neat but this is much more useful.
Through the new iPhone application, players will have constant access to Fallen Earth, which has been one of the most critically acclaimed releases this year. Through its interactive features, the application will allow Fallen Earth players to view their in-game character stats, mutations and trade skills as well as provide access to equipped and stored items. Players will also have the capacity to view maps for each of the three sectors in the 1,000 square kilometers of the game’s landscape.
I have been playing this game since before launch and I can see this fitting right in with all the improvements and advancements this game is coming out with.
